"You can't get a swan from a hen's egg". By selecting the best available miniature gene lines we improve our chances of consistently producing ourstanding small llamas |
Meet the babies |
This is what it's all about. We work hard to combine the right genes, matching characteristics of dam and sire to provide what we think is the best combination. But it's all theory till the baby pops out and that moment never gets old. Llama babies are usually up on all fours within half an hour and feeding from mom soon after. We dab some iodine on their belly-button, weigh them, then leave the rest to mom. They'll be running with the herd within a few hours of birth... just amazing...... |
GingerJune 26th 2008Satin Lace X Big Poppa |
![]() |
Ginger is our first baby girl from Big Poppa, based on his gene lines we were hoping for the ginger and white paint-job and excellent bone and topline and he sure didn't disappoint us. In fairness he did have some help from mom, Satin Lace has always been a standout in the field and even though Ginger didn't inherit her appaloosa coloring she has her mom's face and ears, and if mom is queen of the herd, this one certainly thinks she is a princess. This picture was taken at one week old. We showed Ginger in Spring 2009 VA Classic, she placed 4th in a strong class of 13 minis. Ginger has great ring presence and looks set for a strong show career.
...Sold.....Ginger now lives with Kent & Katy in Kings Mountain.Thank you and congratulations! |
SmokeJune 12th 2008Silent Grattan TCF X WSL Peruvian Quicksilver |
![]() |
Smoke is another unusual llama for our mini herd, his Dam (we call her Gracie) is a mini and we purchased her bred to the amazing silver-grey suri llama - Quicksilver. Smoke is the result and he is completely silver grey like his sire, although not a suri he has silky fiber (single coat but without the suri twist - beautiful for spinning). Grey is an unusual and much sought after color on lllamas. Smoke is beautiful but he doesn't fit our breeding program so we are going to sell him as a pet once he's weaned in the Spring of 2009. This picture was taken at one week old.
...Sold.....Smoke joined his new owner Stacey Coffman in MI, I hope he likes the winters there!Thank you Stacey and congratulations! |
PoppyNovember 8th 2008Spectrum's Zoey X FGL Big Poppa |
![]() |
Once again Big Poppa has 'thrown' his white and ginger paint job, this time with more white than contrast. Check the topline and tailset on this little girl, she has the densest fiber on the farm. She always stands with presence in the pasture - it's hard to take a bad photo of this little ball of energy. Poppy has inherited her dam's excellent athletic stride, she is nicely balanced, compact and cute and will be sure to be a stand-out for the judges - all in all the total mini package. Poppy is beautifully proportioned and although she's very small she's well proportioned with excellent bone. |
TinaNovember 12th 2008ROR Pristina X FGL Big Poppa |
![]() |
Tina is proof that life really is like a box of chocolates when it comes to llama babies. This is the first time a Big Poppa baby has turned up without the familiar ginger and white coloring, instead she has inherited the beautiful appaloosa styling of her grand pappy (Razzel Dazzel). She's got the presence, topline and tailset that we are beginning to expect from Poppa. Pristina, her dam, is a well connected mini who always had a calm and fluid manner about her and Tina has inherited her nature, friendly fun and bursting with energy we are having a ball watching Poppy & Tina chase around the pasture. ...Sold.....Tina now lives with Kent & Katy in Kings Mountain.Thank you and congratulations! |
